Top Performances – NCS 14U Age Group Champs

The North Carolina Swimming 14 and Under Age Group Championships featured several outstanding performances, including a National Age Group Record in the 13-14 Girls 100 yard backstroke by MAC’s Kathleen Baker, swimming unattached.  Baker, who broke the state record in the preliminaries, shattered her earlier mark but also eclipsed the national standard with a time of 52.87. Baker also broke state records in the 100 free (49.88), the 100 breast (1:02.26), and the 100 fly (53.46).

Kayla Tennant of STAR Aquatics broke an individual state record in the 11-12 Girls 100 fly with a time of 57.42.  In addition, Tennant teamed up with Makena Markert, Emily Schoonhagen, and Kat Morrison to set new state records in both the  11-12 Girls 400 free relay (3:41.95) and the Girls 400 medley relay (4:03.24).  STAR Aquatics also set new state records in the 11-12 Boys 400 free relay and the Boys 400 medley relay.  Levente Bathory, Charles Taylor, Tucker Burhans, and Cameron Davenport swam a 3:39.42 to set the new mark in the free relay.  Bathory, Taylor, and Burhans teamed up with Zach Weir to break the state record in the  400 medley relay with a time of 4:03.38.

MAC’s 13-14 Girls relay team  set a new meet record in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.07. Relay team members included Lauren Wallace, Sara Stranick, Alyssa March, and Nora McCullagh.

Top 10 Times updated and some housekeeping notes

The Top 10 Times have been updated as of 1-23-2012.  We have received a few comments about formatting and search capabilities and I wanted to share some of the details, limitations and options.

First – the why.  We have opted to load most documents as Google Documents.  We store the document in the cloud and allow anyone to access without signing in to a google account.   One of the benefits is that we have one single location where the documents are stored which helps keep files organized especially since we have multiple hands accessing the files.  A second benefit is that people accessing the document from a smart phone or tablet can view and search the document (more on the search under limitations) without having to download the actual document.

Second – the limitations and options.  We have had a few instances where people were asked to sign into their account in order to access the documents.  That should not happen since most documents are set to public access to view.  There is always the possibility that by accident we limit access and we will try to ensure this does not happen.  Another limitation we have discovered is that on large files (such as the top 10 times and the bylaws) that the online search option only indexes a set number of characters.  Google is aware of the problem and we hope there is a resolution soon.   I tried an online search (look in the top right hand side of the document for a search window) on the recent Top 10 and it appeared to only search the first 100 of 120 pages.  You can always download the original pdf  (under the file menu on the top left side) and the search through Acrobat works fine.

Information on the Observation of the NCHSAA and NCISAA Meets 2012

Observation of  NCHSAA and NCISAA Meets for USA Swimming Times

The upcoming NCHSAA Regional and State Championships and the NCISAA State Championships will be observed by USA Swimming officials so that the times of athlete members of NC Swimming can be included in the SWIMS database.  No conference championships or inter-city, inter-county meets are being observed.

No special requests are necessary from the swimmers or the high school coaches to get times from the observed meets into the database.  Individual times and relay lead off times from the 200 and 400 Free Relays will be loaded electronically into the database for member athletes.

Times for the regional and state NCHSAA meets will not be loaded until the conclusion of the last state championship (4A) on February 11th.  Times from the NCISAA 1A/2A and 3A Championships will be loaded on February 23rd.

If a high school relay team is comprised of four swimmers from the same USA Swimming club, that relay team time may be individually requested by the club coach.

The following meets are being observed:

1A/2A East and West Regionals; 1A/2A State Championships

3A East and West Regionals; 3A State Championships

4A East, Central and West Regionals; 4A State Championships

NICSAA 1A/2A and 3A State Championships

Please contact Suzanne Heath, Times Chair, at email hidden; JavaScript is required if you have specific questions or you see omissions or errors after the meets have been loaded into the database.
